Man's best friend

As I am writing this, Imree is ironing his clothes for the week in the next room. I’m just killing some time while he is using the iron. Woke up early this morning to prepare for my fourth year in medical school. Felt as if it was only yesterday I was a first year. Feeling my way through the corridors of Stopford Building where as my dear friend Ranjit Bains once said “the place where dreams come true”. I hope it indeed serves that purpose for me eventhough I’m no longer going there for my classes.

So what will I be doing this year? Just to provide an overview, I will be starting on Paediatrics at Tameside General Hospital for 8 weeks. It’s about a 15-minute train ride away. That will be followed by Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the well-known St Mary’s Children’s Hospital which is a stone’s throw away from my house. Those rotations will be 8 weeks each, starting from today.

Then I will be doing neurology, psychiatry, orthopaedics and rheumatology from January til around May. Not to forget, Ramadhan is starting soon and this year it’s gonna be a 16-hour fast :) . And it’s not exactly cool yet, still a bit warm. I might have to stay at Tameside’s hospital accommodation for 8 weeks, to save time on commuting and preventing me from missing ridiculously early ward rounds. Add to that the fact that sahur will be sandwiches and buka puasa will also be sandwiches (since there isn’t any decent eating places nearby the hospital save for a few WHSmith’s and small cafes), then you have quite an accurate picture of what the next few months will be like :) .

Oh well, don’t worry, after a cup of strong black coffee I should be ready to go ;) .
