Salam, just got back from Kelantan last night. I was there for a mass circumcision of little kiddos as well as giving free medical check-ups for the poor. It was a good experience as in the UK, you don’t really get taught how to circumcize and it’s a vital skill when you want to practice as a Muslim doctor. We had 5 surgeons showing us what to do and then it was straight to the real thing. Pretty daunting at first but surprisingly I managed to circumcize 4 kids. This is the point where you know whether you’ve got it in you to become a surgeon or otherwise. Hands have got to be steady, manual dexterity is a must and you’ve got to be patient. It was really really warm in the dining hall of SMK Pak Badol where we did our stuff and I’m sure if you magnify the pictures that I have uploaded you will be able to see sweat trickling down our faces =P. Click here to see the complete set of pictures.
Since I was in Kelantan, I also took the opportunity to visit my grandparents on both sides and also visit a few relatives. You know, when you go back for your summer holidays you are expected to pay everyone within a 200 mile radius a visit and let them know that you are still alive. I’m glad that my grandparents look quite healthy as they always joke that they might not be around the next time I come back. They say that every year but so far so good
. I apologize to some of my friends for not spending some time with them, like for instance Zaatil who invited me to come to her wedding reception. Sorry ye Zaatil, time was a factor
. Tak sempat nak buat apa-apa. Will see you back in Manchester insya Allah.
A lot of things are going on in Kelantan, and I’m happy to say that there’s a lot of development going on. It’s moving, albeit at a much slower pace. Everytime I go to a shop to eat, I am reminded of the reason I fell in love with the place. The hospitality is just world class. People in Kelantan will just immediately strike a conversation with you eventhough they don’t even know you. It just makes your day.
Take time off from work, pay a visit to this wonderful state on the east coast if you haven’t been there before. Its charm will surely get to you
.
Note: I have decided to take down the pictures as they might be perceived as unethical and furthermore, there are a lot of sick paedos lurking around these days…
